One of the fastest rising medical problems to date are tonsil stones. These little balls of yuck can make you feel uncomfortable in social situations. The bad breath and excessive coughing are just a couple of the symptoms that can make your social life difficult.
These squishy and white colored stones form inside the tonsil pockets towards the back of your throat. This is why many people with them often experience sore throat as well. Even though they start out as small balls they can eventually become larger and cause a lot more problems. This is why it’s important to get them removed as soon as you can.
Symptoms of Tonsil Stones
There are numerous different symptoms of tonsil stones. Some of the most common tonsil stones symptoms other than the ones we’ve listed above include:
- Inflammation of the tonsils.
- Pain in the tonsils.
- Throat infections.
- Excessive coughing.
- Difficulty swallowing food.
These symptoms can become worse and worse if left untreated. Thankfully, it isn’t hard at all to get rid of tonsil stones if you know how.
Removing Tonsil Stones
One of the best ways to remove tonsil stones from your mouth is to use a q-tip. You can take a clean q-tip and push it against your tonsils to pop the stones out easily. After you pop the tonsil stones out wash your mouth with some anti-bacterial mouthwash. This method works but it doesn’t prevent the tonsil stones from returning.
Another great way to get rid of tonsil stones is to gargle your mouth out with some salt water. Using the salt water gargle works because it helps push the stones out the pockets inside the tonsils. To use this remedy, you’ll need to mix a couple tablespoons of salt with a cup of water.
Make sure the cup of water is warm enough to dissolve the salt once you begin mixing it. After you’ve mixed the salt and water together go ahead and tilt your head back and start gargling the solution. When you gargle with this salt water solution you want to make sure you hit the back of your throat where the stones are sometimes hiding. Spit out this homemade mouth rinse as soon as you’re finished.
The last resort if all else fails is to get your tonsil stones removed through surgical procedures. The surgical procedure for removing tonsil stones is called tonsillectomy. This procedure involves flattening the tonsil pockets so the stones don’t have any room to grow and thrive.
Tonsillectomy can be a little aggressive which is why it is often the last resort when other removal methods don’t work. Some patients that undergo the tonsillectomy procedure often complain about sore throat and other painful symptoms.
There are definitely numerous ways to get rid of tonsil stones but you have to find the right removal method for yourself. What works for one person may not work for you.
